Powerpoint for Effective Effects Presentaion

Effects processing- “How do I make this thing sound “electric?”
Here is a quick list of possible effects that one may aquire and what they do.   For detailed descriptions of each effect and tips, check out the powerpoint linked above.
a.Reverb: Hundreds and hundreds of blended delays (not individually discernable)
i.Caused by reflection from floors, walls, ceilings, other surfaces
ii.Starts with one or more distinct echoes known as early reflections.
iii.As the sound continues to bounce around, the reflections blend, making a more                        homogeneous sound known as  reverberation
iv.The sound of the reverb decays as time passes
b.Chorus
i.Simulates two instruments playing in “unison”
ii.Small and variable differences in timing, volume, and pitch
c.Delay – One or more distinct sound images (echoes)
                      Impression of distance, ms=feet
i.60-100ms = slap, 30-60ms = doubling, 1-30ms - fattening
d.Flanger: Original signal is duplicated
One is delayed and the other isn’t
e.Phaser or Phase Shifter
i.Sounds similar to flanging, but is achieved in a different way
ii.This device contains one or more high Q filters
iii. This is a filter with a very narrow bandwidth
iv.The signal is split (duplicated)
v.One goes to the filter, one bypasses the filter
vi.The phase shift is created at frequencies  on either side of the filter notch
vii.By sweeping the notch up and down the frequency spectrum, and mixing the result with                          the original signal, a series of ever- changing phase cancellations results
f.Distortion
g.Harmonizers
h.Looping
